A NEW DAWN IN CRISSA

What is in a name? A name can be an albatross or a blessing. CRISSA (Christ the Redeemer International Secondary School Akure.) is surely a blessing to those that pass through her as well as those who could afford their children to be part of the great citadel of learning. A school set up by the then Redeemed Christian Church of God Ondo State ably led by Pastor Olusola Adeyeye in 1998. It took off in that year with nineteen students fourteen boys and five girls. Today to the Glory of God, the school has made remarkable progress in Areas of Academics, sports and national development. I came in as the third principal after the retirement of Pastor Olorunfemi (the second principal) in December 2014. A lot have been put in place before my assumption of office but I believe in God that purposeful coming in at this time will surely mark a new dawn for greater progress and achievement in CRISSA. The mission statement of CRISSA is to ensure that our students get the best in secondary education and be morally sound. A lot of daily programmes are on in the school to restore confidence in the students while the spirit of good leadership is entrenched in them right from JSS I. At CRISSA, each of the science subject including I.C.T have fully equipped laboratories that can match the 21st century needs; The classrooms have fewer students so as to ensure proper interaction between the staff and the students, remedial programmes are also on during the weekend to bridge the gap of identified students who couldn’t meet up with the pace of their classmate. The Hostel accommodation is very conducive, while the feeding is second to none compared with international standards. With a well equipped music studio that will make a prepared cantata orchestra to be envious, all sporting activities are well promoted during the weekend especially basket ball. Infrastructurally, the school is well endowed with architectural masterpiece all embedded in a serene atmosphere best for studying. Indeed CRISSA has made name in the area of physical development and management style. The opening of the skill acquisition centre is to promote youth development as well as reduce unemployment rate among our youth. At the centre, students are trained in garment making, catering services as well as fish farming. This programme which will be sustained would develop a pool of technically skill hands among CRISSAITES. To cater for the students who may fall sick, is a well equipped Clinic, well staffed as well as needed drugs fully stocked.The student’s common room (each for both sexes) kick start the social life in the compound coupled with other socially organized programmes by the students and for the students, all makes LIFE AS A STUDENT IN CRISSA very interesting. Generally our educational system in CRISSA in term of quality and facilities compares favorably with what obtains in advanced countries. To this end, the school now runs training for SAT, TOEFL and other International Examination that will ensure that our graduates are ready materials for first class foreign and National universities. Training for ATS examination is equally undertaken in the school for commercially orientedstudents who wants to become financial guru in the future within the shortest possible time. At CRISSA, We ensure a level playing field for all students as this will arise and for all wipe out act of bullying which I learnt once existed in CRISSA. Nigeria as a country is yearning for future leaders who has the resolve and force of character to effect a change in several areas and aspects and this CRISSA is out to entrust in all students who passes through her. Our road to ensure a new dawn will be a continuous one.

Many of you went ahead (as expected) with the spirit of excellence implanted in you to your various higher institutions where they emerged overall best graduating students; notable among them are: 1. Within your institution or locality, institute old students Association both at National and International level. Your achievement / attainment will be showcased at such occasion as this will serve as morale booster for those coming behind you. Ours is to turn the raw materials you passed unto us into finished products that will perfectly fit into re-known higher institutions, maintain excellence during and after their training. All we solicit for is that you provide your children with the necessary tools that will enable them become what God has in stock for them. Tips To Parents

Laughing with your children will build their self esteem rather than laughing at them. A good percentage of high - esteem in children comes from homes where parents have been significantly stricter in their approach to discipline - such homes demand strict accountability and responsibility from their children. Let your child(ren) know that your love is not conditional on excellent academic performance alone but that you love them unconditionally. Always reward good grades, positive behavior and their efforts. Encourage curiosity and create a climate where learning is fun. Discuss school assignments during holidays and help when you can with their home work. Encourage the reading of biographies and autobiographies of great men and women who overcame barriers to attain great heights in life. Don't speak negatively in front of your children about their teachers or school. Support the school's rules and regulations and discipline. Encourage your children to participate in the school's co-curricular activities. Take them on excursions to places of historical educational interest. Encourage this aphorism in them "Quitters never win, and winner's never quit" also, accompany your children on journey to new experiences and be available to answer their questions. MRS.
